1. Start with the course, not just the country
Write down the subject you want to study, the qualification you need and the career direction you are considering. Compare course content, entry criteria, teaching style, placement opportunities and the support available to international students.
2. Compare the full cost
Look beyond tuition fees. Build a realistic estimate that includes accommodation, food, local travel, health-related costs, course materials, deposits and travel to and from your destination. Check the university’s official fee pages and ask what costs may change between academic years.
3. Consider the student experience
Think about campus or city life, climate, travel connections, community, student support, accessibility and how far you may be from family. If possible, attend official virtual open days and speak to university representatives.
4. Check requirements from official sources
Admission criteria, English-language requirements, application deadlines and immigration rules differ by country and applicant. Confirm current requirements directly with the university and the relevant government authority rather than relying only on social media posts or older articles.
5. Build a comparison table
Shortlist two or three realistic courses and compare them side by side: entry requirements, total estimated cost, course structure, application dates, location and available support. This makes it easier to discuss the options with your family or education counsellor.
